Virgin American has posted “Fares to Fly By” for travel departing Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Saturday. Book by February 14, and fly March 1 through May 25. Lots of $139 and $149 flights from East Coast cities to Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Southwest continues to be a bargain on domestic flights. The airline’s dual policy of “no change fees” and “bags fly free” is particularly welcome for vacationers who travel with golf clubs, scuba gear or skis.
Fly.com reports that a number of airlines have dropped their prices to New York City from departure cities across the country. Currently flights can be had for as low as $39 each way and at a savings of up to $150 OFF regular prices. The site provides a Low Fare Calendar to help you find the best dates to travel through March.
United Airlines announced reduced fares on over 300 routes between January 4 and march 9. Prices range from $49 to $99 one way. Fly between Denver and Chicago for $89, Denver and San Diego for $59, Pittsburgh and Chicago for $59.
Frontier Airline’s Whole Enchilada Sale goes now through Feb. 28 with no advance purchase necessary. One-way fares in this sale do not include passenger facility fees of up to $9 each way, the September 11th Security Fee of up to $5 each way, or fees of $3.70 per segment (one take-off/one landing).
Need a hotel room right away? Try www.lastminutetravel.com for great bargains on unadvertised hotels. Among the per-night deals recently listed for a three-night, mid-week stay were a three-star hotel on the upper west side of Manhattan for $22.92 (non-refundable), a four-star hotel outside Paris near Euro Disney for $80.17, and a three-star hotel with outdoor pool in Anaheim for $57.20.
Another site for fast bargains is www.us.lastminute.com, where a package in Dallas was recently listed for $372 per person including airfare from New York, one-night at the InterContinental Dallas, tax, recovery charge and service fees.
Kimpton Hotels is offering a We've Got Your Bag program to help cover airline baggage fees. You’ll get a $25 room credit to offset the charges for your second checked bag. To qualify, you must book a room using Kimpton's "Best Available Rate" pricing category and present proof of the airline baggage charge at check-in.
Southwest Vacations has announced a Fourth Night Free Disneyland Resort Vacation Package deal. Book a minimum four-night airfare-and-Disneyland-resort package by February 19, including Park Hopper passes, and you'll get a free fourth night at your resort, as well as early access to select attractions throughout the park with "Magic Morning" admission. Travel is valid between January 4 and April 11.

USA Today says now is the time to look for bargains. The article says South Florida and Las Vegas are aggressively discounting hotel rooms. The article also adds that the best prices in Vegas are for Sunday through Wednesday.
The January 9 travel section of the New York Times included a great list of ways to save travel costs in a year of higher prices. Tips include purchasing air fare on Tuesday because, “Most airlines begin sales on Monday evenings, and by the following day other airlines have usually matched the lowered fares. . .”
