Things to do in Aspen

Welcome to beautiful Aspen! Vinnie Van GO loves the great outdoors, and Aspen is one of his favorites.

Named because of all of the beautiful aspen trees, Aspen has some of the most gorgeous mountain views in the country. Founded as a mining camp, Aspen became a booming city when Aspen Mountain was developed into a ski resort. Now, it is a spot where you can relax, unwind, enjoy nature, and even see some celebrity sightings – maybe even Vinnie Van GO himself!

Take a ride on GO Shuttle and enjoy Aspen for yourself!

Aspen Wine & Food

Aspen Food & Wine Classic

Mid-June, Aspen hosts one of its most exciting events. The most prestigious culinary stars in the country all converge on Aspen, showing off some of the world’s best in food, wine and entertainment. Leading chefs and sommeliers host three days of tastings, demonstrations and special events.

Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration

If you’re in town for Independence Day, Aspen has a celebration filled with small town appeal. Join more than 20,000 spectators for the annual parade, live music performances and picnics. With a kids carnival, this event is perfect for the whole family! Also, don’t forget the fireworks. What better way to see them than set over majestic Aspen Mountain?

12 Days of Aspen

Around the holidays, Aspen turns into a winter wonderland. Each season, the Aspen Chamber Resort Association hosts the 12 Days of Aspen. Downtown Aspen is filled with free holiday activities, holiday treats and a visit from the big man himself – Santa! With the beautiful mountains as a backdrop, you’re sure to feel the holiday spirit.

Aspen Rodeo

Snowmass Village Rodeo Booth

While Aspen doesn’t have your traditional stadiums and arenas, there is a rodeo booth in Snowmass Village, only a short shuttle ride away! There are frequent shows that are both fun and inexpensive. The events are fun for all ages. Take in the authentic rodeo experience while you’re enjoying some delicious BBQ. Book a rodeo shuttle and leave the driving to GO!

Maroon Bells

If you’re in the area, you won’t want to miss one of the most photogenic spots in the country. This valley was created from more than 300 million years of geological activity. The reflective lake, backgrounded by two majestic snowy maroon-colored mountains, is the perfect photo opportunity. Located just 10 miles west of Aspen, this part of the Rocky Mountains has plenty of hiking trails and gorgeous scenery in every season.

Aspen Mountain

This mountain summit in the Elk Mountains range of the Rocky Mountains is truly something you need to take in. Surrounded by the White River National Forest, this mountain is home to many hiking trails and top-notch ski experiences at the Aspen Mountain ski area. A tip from the locals: call the mountain by its nickname “Ajax” and you’ll fit right in!

The Buttermilk Ski Area is a ski hill in Aspen that has three fantastic ski areas. It has hosted the ESPN Winter X Games multiple times, and is famous for being one of the best beginner ski mountains in the U.S. This is a great ski area to take the whole family – the base has The Hideout, a wonderful children’s play-and-learning area for little ones.

Aspen Tours

Aspen has a number of touring options for you, your friends and family. The Aspen Chamber of Commerce promotes a number of tours, including historical and nature tours. Aspen Walking Tours has several local-led walking tours, such as scenic, historic and spooky tours, including special tours for groups. Vinnie Van GO can’t recommend getting a local to show you around Aspen enough!

This glamorous but cozy spot has a beautiful patio and the best burgers in town. Unfortunately this restaurant is not open in the off season, but when it is make sure to call ahead – it’s a favorite of locals and visitors alike!
