Indianapolis Annual Events

500 Festival and IndyCar Grand Prix

Indiana State Fair

Every August, this two-week state fair has been a rite of passage for Indianapolis residents for more than 160 years. Join the crowds for some traditional state fair fun, including rides, games, and all of the fried Oreos you can eat.

Big Ten Football Championship

Football fans know that when December comes around, so does one of the year’s most highly anticipated events: the Big Ten Football Championship. Indy annually hosts the top college football teams in the country at Lucas Oil Stadium to see who will take the gold. Big Ten football shuttles are available with GO!


Lucas Oil Stadium

This multi-purpose arena in downtown Indy is home to the NFL’s Colts. It also hosted Super Bowl XLVI.

Bankers Life Fieldhouse

This indoor arena in downtown Indy is home to the NBA Pacers and the WNBA’s Indiana Fever. It’s a great place to catch a game when you’re in town.

Indianapolis Zoo

If you’re traveling to Indy with children, the Indianapolis Zoo must be a stop during your trip. Located in White River State Park, this zoo has thousands of animals, spread across a zoo, aquarium and botanical garden.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum

Located just a short shuttle ride from downtown Indy is the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, one of the most famous race car tracks in the world. For informative and fun exhibits on the history of racing, the speedway’s museum is a must-visit.

Central Canal

This central canal is one of the city’s main landmarks. Built in the early 19th century, this canal is an important part of the country’s history, and is a beautiful place to walk along on a sunny day.


For a fun tour around the city, try out Indy Fun Trolley Tours. It’s a perfect way to stay cool on a hot day. If you’re traveling to Indy with a group of adults, Brewery Tours of Indianapolis has fun and informative experiences around the city’s best beer breweries. Several of Indianapolis’s public buildings, including the Statehouse, also offer tours during opening hours.

Tappers Arcade Bar

This local watering hole is a wonderful, and nostalgic, way to spend your night out in Indy. This spot also has trivia nights, game-a-thons, and games free with purchase of food or beverage.
