Things to do in Samana

Samana Special Events

Whale Watching in Samana

Each January to March, between 3,000 and 5,000 whales migrate to Samana Bay. Visitors can watch from the Punta Balandra observatory deck or from a guided boat tour.

Dominican Carnival

Every February, the Dominican Carnival takes place as one of the DR’s most important celebrations. Samana’s celebration sees lively local music and dance performances.

100k del Caribe

This seven-day 100 km Caribbean marathon that starts from Cabarete to Samana takes place every mid June.

There are no stadiums or arenas in Samana.

Playa Rincon

One of the most breathtaking beaches in the Dominican Republic, this 3km stretch of uninterrupted sand is the perfect place to spend a day swimming, sunbathing, and dining on local seafood spots.

Parque Nacional Los Haitises

This nature reserve is a ways out, but there are many guided tours to get you there and show you around. It’s beautiful, so the trip is worth it!

Playa Fronton

This beach has some of the best snorkeling in the Dominican Republic. This beach was the filming site of Colombia’s Survivor, and other reality shows.

For a guided tour to Los Haitises nature reserve, Flora Tours is a highly popular option. Go Samana also offers tons of tour options, from ziplining to waterfall swimming and deep sea fishing.

For the best steaks in town, stop by this French-Caribbean spot that has been a local favorite for 20 years.

This bakery selling the best French pastries is a great place to get a sugar fix while relaxing amongst locals.
